In the vibrant heart of 1980s New York City, the Rodriguez family found joy in the everyday rhythm of their bustling neighborhood. Saturdays meant a trip to the local bodega for fresh bagels, the sound of boomboxes echoing distant tunes down the street, and then a thrilling ride on the subway, its rumbling an adventure in itself, to visit the Central Park Zoo. Little Maria would press her face against the train window, eyes wide at the blur of graffiti-covered walls and towering brownstones, while her older brother, Leo, dreamed of breakdancing like the crews he saw in Union Square. Their parents, always holding hands, just smiled, happy to be raising their children amidst the unique energy and endless possibilities that only New York in the eighties could offer.
